Suburban Wife’s Daily Dollar Diary

a financial voyeur’s dream come true: all the intimate details of how, where, and why I spend money

$$: Dec 7 - Pool Fees

Total Spent Today: $140.00

Today was a no-direct-spending day.  It was a quiet, stay-at-home (other than church, of course) day.  I didn’t spend any money directly but I did receive an email this evening to confirm that my credit card had been charged for The Daughter’s pool fees this month.

$$: Pool Fees, Swimming Gear, and Food

Total Spent Today: $171.86

The Daughter and I were supposed to do some shopping/errands today but she had a mid-afternoon babysitting gig that took longer than expected.  Thus we got a late start and only got one errand run because the stores starting closing and I had to be home to fix dinner (hey, don’t you call having the kids [...]

$$: Gas, Juice, & Small Loan

Total Spent Today: $53.00

Today was a very loonnnnnnnng day.
I went to bed at 11:30pm last night.  I woke up this morning at 4:45am — about 15 minutes before my alarm was due to go off.  The Daughter’s volleyball team made it into the state Regionals tournament which was being held today — in a very small, remote town over [...]

$$: The Day’s Expenses plus Swim Meet Tips

Today The Daughter attended her first swim meet since rejoining a competitive swim team.  She took a 2-1/2 year break from competitive swimming and in that time I’d managed to forget both how much I hate swim meets and everything I’d learned about what to take with me.
As a reminder to myself and perhaps to [...]

$$: Paint & Pizza

Imagine, if you will, The Husband’s crushing disappointment this morning when I announced my decision that the lastest color sample — applied yesterday and initially deemed to be acceptable — simply isn’t right and that I planned to continue my search.  He kept his cool, admirably, but with visible effort.
At my painter’s suggestion, I decided [...]

$$: Chocolate Milk, Chocolate Candy & Snow Pants, etc.

The Husband and The Daughter did a “driving-day” switch (DD usually drives herself to school on M, W, & F; DH gets the other car on those day; I get nothing) so I had a car at my disposal.  Thus, I got some errands done.

$$: Church, Dining, Groceries, Cosmetics, & Swimming

Church — $50.00
It’s been weeks since I’ve made an offering at church — either because I didn’t attend (after my surgery) or because I didn’t have a check with me.  Today I wrote an extra large offering check to make up for all of those skipped weeks.
Whole Foods — $31.67
The kids are definitely preferring Whole [...]
