Suburban Wife’s Daily Dollar Diary

a financial voyeur’s dream come true: all the intimate details of how, where, and why I spend money

$$: All The Usual Suspects

Total Spent Today: $79.56

Ah, another day in suburbia; another day in the life of a suburban wife and mother.
Physical Therapy — $25.00
We started the day with a physical therapy session for The Son.  His broken clavicle is healing nicely and PT is coming along nicely too.  The therapist gave The Son several additional Range-of-Motion exercises as well as [...]

Good News - Update on my IRA

Well, not to gloat….
I’m fiscally conservative.  The Husband, even more so.  Therefore, when we started making annual contributions to my IRA, we choose to do so in the form of a CD.
The interest rates are nothing to write home about and certainly far less than the IRA gains some people were bragging about a year [...]

$$: Coyote Sighting Edition

Total Spent Today: $1,954.94

A coyote crossed the road in front of me this morning as it traveled from one section of greenbelt to another.  I can’t remember ever being that close to a coyote before and seeing it there, in the middle of an upscale suburban development, was a glorious testament to the will and drive to survive [...]

Burdened by Parents; Thwarted by Banks

A quick back history:  In December ‘07, my mom decided to sell her house and move across the country to live with my youngest sister, her husband, and their three children.  In mid-January she put her house up for sale and it sold almost immediately.  She closed on the house in early March.  Since her [...]

$$: Groceries, Investment, & House Painting Services

Before boring you with today’s purchases, I want to share the fun.  The Husband’s Christmas present was delivered yesterday.  I spent the better part of the afternoon uncrating it, getting adjusting the brakes and making necessary adjustments, and then riding it around the neighborhood.  I had to make sure everything was safe and secure, right?
Man, [...]

$$: GE Stock, Ballet Tickets, & Cell Phone

Ballet — $104.15
Two tickets for The Son and I to go see a traditional production of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake.  The Son mentioned an interest in seeing this particular ballet about two months ago but I put off buying tickets because I was unsure of how my thyroidectomy was going to pan out.
Now that the surgery [...]

$$: Paint & an Investment Funds Transfer

Kwal Paint — $9.46
I’ve completely abandoned my hunt for the right color for the exterior of our house and am now hoping simply for an acceptable color.  This latest quart, if not an acceptable color, is the closest I’ve come so far.  The problem is, the weather turned cold and overcast yesterday so I haven’t [...]
