Suburban Wife’s Daily Dollar Diary

a financial voyeur’s dream come true: all the intimate details of how, where, and why I spend money

$$: Groceries, Investment, & House Painting Services

Before boring you with today’s purchases, I want to share the fun.  The Husband’s Christmas present was delivered yesterday.  I spent the better part of the afternoon uncrating it, getting adjusting the brakes and making necessary adjustments, and then riding it around the neighborhood.  I had to make sure everything was safe and secure, right?
Man, [...]

$$: Groceries, an Odwalla, & “Harvey”

The painter showed up with her crew at 7:30 this morning.  Must have been 7 or 8 guys.  We confirmed the colors and where they would all go.  Then she took off, they got to work, and I was stuck home all day answering little questions here and there and basically just holding down the [...]

$$: NPR, Gas, Groceries, Health Care, & ….. Paint

Oh, what a day!  I had a car at my disposal all day.  It was heaven.
Spoiler Alert:  Son, if you’re reading this stop now or spend the next two months already knowing what you’re getting for Christmas.
NPR — $120.00
Several weeks ago The Son discovered NPR.  Since then we’ve gone from debating whose iPod to listen [...]

$$: Chocolate Milk, Chocolate Candy & Snow Pants, etc.

The Husband and The Daughter did a “driving-day” switch (DD usually drives herself to school on M, W, & F; DH gets the other car on those day; I get nothing) so I had a car at my disposal.  Thus, I got some errands done.
Kwal Paints — $25.16
I lied.  There’s no way I’m going to [...]

Day 234: Groceries & An Electrician

Total Spent Today:  $ 244.62
This garage door opener is eating my lunch!  The issue isn’t completely resolved and put to bed, plus I’m beyond exhausted and in a great deal of pain, so I’m not going to go into all the hairy details right now.  Suffice it to say that my $227 garage door opener [...]

Day 233: Returns, Chocolate Milk, the Dentist, and a Strapless Bra

Total Spent Today: $ 44.95
Net Spent Today: ($ 12.50)
Dentist — $0.00
I started the day with an early appointment at the dentist’s to have my teeth cleaned.  Sleeping with my CPAP mask tends to make the calcium buildup on my teeth happen faster so this is a 4-month appointment instead of a 6-month.  That means that [...]

Day 230: Gasoline, Urgent Care, & Deck Repair Finale

Total Spent Today:  $1,065.03
Costco Gas — $65.03
I tanked up The Tank today.  I haven’t had to do that for over a month because I’ve been driving my mom’s car.  Sure, I’ve been filling up her tank but her car gets nearly twice the gas mileage that The Tank does.  I pumped 20.202 gallons @ $3.219/gallon.  [...]
