$$: Plastic Ziplock Alternatives

One of the best things about two weeks’ worth of school vacation is two weeks’ break from packing lunches.

[So shoot me.  If I were a really good mom, I’d say the best part of vacation is being with my kids, right?]

Last year I experimented with using waxed paper sandwich bags instead of plastic ziplock sandwich bags and I rather liked them.  It wasn’t until school started again this fall that The Daughter informed me that she hated them — reason being that I made her sandwiches the night before and without the airtight seal of a ziplock, the bread would be stale by lunch time the next day.  The Son, whose lunches were usually made in the morning before school (remember he went to a different school and left later in the morning), didn’t have the same problem and therefore had no issue with the waxed sandwich bags.

Now that both children leave early in the morning before I’m full awake, I make their lunches the night before so I’ve stopped using the waxed bags.  I was just surfing around and quite accidentally came across these Sandwich Wraps.  I wonder how effective they are at keeping made-the-night-before sandwiches fresh?  Right now, between sandwiches and fruit, I go through about 15 plastic bags per week.  I’d love to find an effective, practical alternative.
