$$: Dec 4 — Groceries & Sweat Pants

Please forgive me.  I’m still catching up on past Daily $$ posts.

Kroger — $63.18

Who wouldn’t love getting $100’s worth of groceries for $63?  Here’s how I did it.  First, I saved $7.56 by using my Kroger loyalty card.  Then I applied $30 worth of Kroger grocery checks — earned through using my Kroger 1–2-3 Rewards credit card.  Then, of course, there was the $0.15 I received for my bag credits.  ;-)

ClothingWarehouse.com — $19.49

The Husband wears sweat pants as PJs.  And the state of his current sweat pants is, well, pretty sad.  He has three pair and they are all in various states of shredded pathetic-ness.

As The Husband is notoriously difficult to shop for, I love it when a need coincides with a gift-giving holiday.

Flush with confidence gained from my boot shopping experience, I hit the Internet with a vengeance determined to find at least a good a deal on sweatpants.  In the end, I did even better!

First, I had to find the right sweat pants.  A Google search turned up just what I was looking for — 90% cotton 9.7oz Champion sweat pants with pockets, elastic waistband and elastic leg cuffs.

The next step was to find the right vendor.  Just as I did on Tuesday, I started on Google.  As it turns out, there aren’t too many stores that offer that particular style of sweat pants so narrowing the field to ClothingWarehouse.com wasn’t too difficult.  Just as I’d done the other day, the next step was to search for a coupon.  CouponAlbum.com turned up a 20% off coupon good just for Thursday and free shipping!  eBates offered just 1% off ClothingWarehouse.com purchases but it was better than nothing.  By putting the whole purchase on my American Express Blue Card, I earned a final 1.5% off.

Final results:  one pair of $24.95 sweat pants — $19.49

[One quick postscript:  It was my inclination, at that price, to buy two pair of pants but The Husband, given his age, health, and personality, insisted I buy just one pair.  He’s totally into the “never buy green bananas” gig but he never makes it morbid so I just sigh and smile and remember how much I love him.]
