The Son is 14. Despite the fact that he's a bit quirky and probably has Asperger's, he's a pretty typical 14-year-old boy.
Lately he has started drawing my attention to TV commercials for iPhone applications that he thinks are very, very cool. So cool that Mr. Even-Tempered's eyes get all big and shiny and he exclaims, "did you see that? That's soooo cool!"
Now I don't know about you but don't think it's overly paranoid to assume that when your kid gets all hot under the collar about some cool new gadget, he's really saying he wants one. I know that when my eyes get big and shiny and I start drooling, I want one of whatever it is.
So last night he was watching TV. Next to him on the couch, I was ignoring him and the TV while surfing on the computer. All of a sudden he starts with the "wow, did you see that...." gig again.
So, dreading the answer, I asked if he wanted an iPhone.
He looked at me like I was completely and utterly clueless (which, of course, I am -- not being, never having been, and never going to be a 14-yo boy myself) and said, "No. I don't have any need for a phone, Mom. I just think it's soooo cool."
God love him! He doesn't need a phone. Maybe I'm doing something right?
