$$: No More Filing Papers on the Floor

Posted on | November 6, 2008 |

Total Spent Today: $16.15

The Container Store — $16.15

Now, I’m not accepting any flack on this purchase.  I know I could have spent a lot less filling this need elsewhere but not without a great deal of time and effort expended.   In my current SWI (shopping while impaired) condition, time and effort are in very short supply [not to mention the fact that I only have a vehicle 2 days a week].

The Son has a habit of coming home from class twice a week and emptying to contents of his backpack onto the floor of his bedroom.  I’m tired of it.  Oh, sure, he cleans it up every week or so but there’s been an ever-growing pile of returned assignments and tests (in other words, paperwork) for which The Son has, until now, not had a place to file.

The Son and I had an Apple Store One-to-One lesson scheduled today and The Container Store is right on the way home.  Figuring that he’s more likely to use a filing box that he likes, I had him pick it out.  He was clear that he did not want a box with a lid and my only requirement was that there be no potential for the box to scratch the wood floors.  He picked out a simple gray paper open-topped file box.

When we got home I pulled out four manilla folders, labeled them according to his four classes, and stuck them in a hanging folder.  I labeled a second hanging folder to hold his extra school materials — pamphlets and materials checked out to him that he has to return at the end of the year or face a fee.

This evening he spent some time cleaning up his room (in other words, finding the floor again).  He’ll file the papers tomorrow but for today he simply made a nice pile of the paperwork in need of filing.
