$$: Gas, Juice, & Small Loan
Today was a very loonnnnnnnng day.
I went to bed at 11:30pm last night. I woke up this morning at 4:45am -- about 15 minutes before my alarm was due to go off. The Daughter's volleyball team made it into the state Regionals tournament which was being held today -- in a very small, remote town over 2 hours away. The Daughter, a member of the team, had to be at school at 6:30 so she could catch a ride to the games. I was "volunteered" to help transport the rest of the High School students who'd declared the day a field trip day. After getting The Daughter to school, I had an hour to kill before loading up a bunch of students for the trip.
Since I was going to be gone all day without a source of food, I ran to a nearby Whole Foods and picked up an Odwalla Strawberry C Monster juice -- $3.29.
When we arrived at the gym, I paid the $6.00 admission fee only to be told that I was exempt because I was a driver. So I politely asked for, and received, a full refund.
After watching 4 hours of volleyball, our team had some time off so I loaded up The Tank with a bunch of kids and we went in search of food (for them). One young man had forgotten the lunch he'd packed and had no cash, so I loaned him $8.00. Because the school is so small, I have no worry about not being paid back. The boys (as my car was loaded with nothing but boys) enjoyed lunch of BBQ ribs and corn from a rather fancy street vendor/trailer/bbq-smoker guy.
Truck Stop -- $41.71
We were about halfway through our two-hour-drive home when I decided that it would be prudent to stop and tank up The Tank. It was just as well because a number of the kids I was hauling (this time a blend of boys and girls) needed to empty their bladders. I pumped 17.918 gallons at $2.329 per gallon, made a pit-stop myself, loaded the kids, and headed back into town. The Tank's odometer read 133,889.
