$$: Panda Express, Groceries, a Book & a Shirt

Ugh. Today did not go as planned. The Son and I had an appointment for a One-to-One lesson at the Apple store. I was really looking forward to it. The Son asked for some time on the computer which I reluctantly gave him because it was a little too early to get packed up. I sat down to read; he sat down on the ‘puter. The next thing I knew, it was already 10 minutes into our appointment time. There was no point in even going since it’s a 1/2-hour drive plus the time it takes two wounded people to transport a 24″ iMac into the store and set it up. I’d like to write it off as due to the fog of the anesthesia and painkillers but that would be a stretch and probably not true. We both just lost track of time — something we both do a lot.
So we watched our Netflix disc instead, the second of four discs in a documentary called The Supreme Court. It’s quite excellent, by the way, and extremely apropos of current events. It’s annoying, however, that they only put one hour of material on each disc. Why not put break it down to two discs, two hours each?
When we were done with the disc we gathered it along with yesterday’s X-Files disc and a library book due today and headed out. It was the first time I’ve driven in nearly two weeks and I was a little nervous about it — not so much because of any lingering drugs in my system but because of the potential strain of driving The Tank. I had nothing to fear, however, and the errand-running went smoothly enough.
Because The Son had been looking forward to his after-Apple-lesson lunch stop at Panda Express and his taste buds and stomach fell victim to my spacey-ness, I bought the boy a late lunch at the Panda Express ($7.91) across from the library. He sat and ate while I sat and read the last few pages of the book. We both left quite satisfied.
This evening I attended the first of 6 monthly study group meetings and wrote a check to the organizer to cover the cost of the book ($15.00). I enjoyed myself and look forward to next month’s meeting though I’m very glad that I won’t have to miss any more important political events due to the study group. The Daughter gave me a great blow-by-blow account of the VP debate but I look forward to viewing the entire debate online tomorrow.
On the way home I made a quick grocery stop at Kroger for essentials:
- gallon of Horizon 2% milk — $5.19 (saved $0.20)
- two 1/2-gallons of Horizon Chocolate milk — $3.39/ea. (saved $0.30/ea.)
- Rudi’s multi-grain oat bread — $2.50
- Rudi’s Country White bread — $4.39
I thought my spending was over for the day but The Daughter handed me an order form for a team t-shirt for her new competitive swim team. I’d figured she’d want one so it was no surprise. I’m all for team support and the cost comes out of her monthly clothing budget so I had no qualms about writing the $15.00 check.
