$$: No Spend Day & Some Deep Thoughts
Posted on | September 28, 2008 |
What a blessing a licensed 16-yo can be! I sent The Son and The Daughter off together to church this morning. It was nice to know I could skip church without putting any additional stress on The Husband. The Daughter got herself and her brother to chuch and home again — and filled up the tank of the Impreza on the way.
I stayed at home and nursed my neck wound, contemplated the state of the economy, considered the upcoming elections, baked my four whole chicken legs, and filled out reams of paperwork in preparation of The Son’s evaluation for Asperger’s Syndrome.
I spent no money.
Has anyone noticed how negative McCain’s TV ads are? Is this really what appeals to the average American voter? What does that say about us? Or maybe it just says something about what McCain’s people think of us?
The very thought of a $700 billion (at the very minimum) bailout makes my blood boil but are there really people out there who think we have an option? The Husband remembers very clearly what life was like when our country was in a depression. The Depression. What degree of hubris does it take to think that times could never get that tough again? As the saying goes, “those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”
As much as I’d like to believe that the general public is smarter than they’re given credit for, I’m finding it harder to keep the faith lately. In fact I want to scream and go all radical. I think every single American should have to pass basic intelligence and American Civics tests and anyone who fails loses their right to citizenship.
Here’s what I have to say to every single stupid bloody WaMu customer who withdrew their cash in those final days — I hope the mattress you stuffed your cash under catches fire and burns to a fine ash!
I have many thoughts swirling around in my head right now about Asperger’s and Autism and PDDs. About IEPs, IDEAs, and 504s. About the public school system, special ed, homeschooling, and property taxes. Try as I might, I can’t yet get any of these wandering, random thoughts to jell into something worth sharing here on my blog. I’ll keep working on it.
