Day 226: Finally, a No-Spend Day
Just yesterday I was lamenting how long it had been since I’d had a no-spend day. I fully expected to spend today so I was surprised when I sat down tonight and realized I hadn’t spent a penny.
There are a couple of items we need from the grocery store and I really should have gone but it didn’t happen.
Also, The Daughter and I had a date to go workout at the local rec center after school today. I figured I’d have to refill a punch card — either hers or mine or maybe both. Sure enough, the front desk clerk confirmed that I was all out of prepaid visits but then offered to take two visits off The Daughter’s record. I gave no argument — especially because she qualifies for the student prices whereas I have to pay adult prices. In effect, I got in for the student rate.
The last expense I expected today was the back deck which I’m having repaired and refinished. If the job had been finished today, I would have had to pay the remaining balance on the contract. But the job’s going to take an extra day because he had to replace the ballisters on one whole side of the deck — where we took out a shed last year and the ballisters were all cut short to sit on top of the shed roof. Anyway, the contractor was working alone so I ended up spending 4–1/2 hours out there helping out (and making sure he did the job right). Even with my help, he’ll need a third day to finish the job.

On the subject of no-spend days, I feel quite silly for making a big deal about no-spends days — or the lack of them. I don’t know about you but I don’t spend any more or less money overall in a month just because I had more or less no-spend days. The money I didn’t spend today will certainly get spent tomorrow — or the day after.
What do you think? Do you see a direct correlation between the number of no-spend days and your monthly spending? Or is a no-spend day just a delay of the inevitable?
