Day 188: Tide, Tampax, & Cargo Shorts

Posted on | March 7, 2008 |

Target — $52.26

  • huge box of Tide Free — $13.99
  • 2 boxes of Tampax — $5.00/ea.
  • package of Hanes briefs — $9.49 (for The Son)
  • 2 boxes Kashi Cinnamon Harvest cereal — $3.74/ea. (Target raised their prices; still lowest price in town)
  • 2 half-gallon cartons of Horizon chocolate milk — $3.99/ea.

Aeropostale — $43.18

I received an email from Aeropostale the other day that mentioned that men’s cargo shorts were on sale.  The Son likes the pair of Aero khakis I bought for him last fall so I thought I’d stop in and see if the shorts looked like something he might wear.  [Every single pair of shorts from last year have been soundly outgrown.]  I picked up two pair in a size 29w to take home for The Son to try.

At first he approved though he didn’t much like the inner waistband drawstring.  On reconsideration, however, he decided that he liked Tuesday’s Dockers from Costco better.  The problem with the Dockers, however, is they look absolutely ridiculous on him.  The manufacturer, when adapting the pattern for the 30w, adjusted only the waist size and nothing else.  The whole front rise is way too long making the crotch area look more than ridiculous.  Too bad because the price was right, the overall style was right, and The Son liked them.  Tomorrow I’ll stop by Old Navy and see what they have to offer in men’s khaki shorts.  I’m not even going to look in the Gap unless and until they have a really good sale.

I don’t want to pay more than $20 per pair of shorts — or less!  I knew that teenaged boys were expensive to feed but it hadn’t occurred to me how expensive they would be to clothe.  Baseball practice starts tomorrow and naturally The Son needs a new pair of cleats.  He can squeeze into last year’s cleats for a few weeks but I’m going to have to drag his reluctant butt out to the stores sometime.  It will have to wait until I’m done with my mom’s move.
