Day 185: BIG Expenses Today

Published by Suburban Wife under clothing, food, Daily $$'s

I managed to spend a boat-load of money today.

Costco — $153.42

  • massive roll of weed barrier cloth — $32.79
  • 3-bag rolling laundry sorter — $39.99
  • 2 pair of Dockers cargo shorts — $14.99/ea. (for The Son)
  • 1 pair of Speedo swim trunks — $12.99 (for The Son)
  • Nautica men’s short sleeve shirt — $18.99 (for The Husband)
  • 2-pk Orowheat Whole Wheat bread — $4.79
  • 18-ct Nest Fresh eggs — $3.49

Costco Gas — $54.07
I pumped 18.274 gallons at $2.959 per gallon; my odometer read 121,248.

Southwest Airlines — $133.50
One-way flight to my mom’s.  The movers will be there on Thursday.  I’m flying out on Sunday.  We’ll stay in a hotel Sunday night and go to the closing on Monday morning.  The plan is to leave town for the drive home after the closing and get in late Monday night.  She flies out of here on Thursday.  She says she’s just about done packing — just a few of the larger pictures left.  Friends still need to come by to pick up things she’s given away or things they bought at the garage sale but for the most part the house is empty and all of her things are packed and ready to go.

Apple — $253.36
A red 8gb iPod Nano and AppleCare package for my mom.  Most of us who love and know my mom best have serious doubts that she will ever master the technical skills necessary to work with iTunes and add new songs and audio books to her iPod.  We figure she’ll play around with it a couple of times, get frustrated, and stick it a drawer somewhere.  But she’s had her heart set on owning an iPod for about 6 months now.  I decided that now was the perfect time to buy one and get it all set up in advance.  Most of the expense will come out of the $200 she says she’s giving to me as my part of the garage sale proceeds.  Only the remainder, $53.36, actually comes out of our pocket.

Wild Oats — $16.57
The Husband and I were early for parent-teacher conferences tonight so we stopped by a Wild Oats for a few essentials:

  • DeBoles artichoke angel hair pasta — $3.50
  • 2 cans of Muir Glen tomato sauce — $1.69/ea.
  • house brand fusilli pasta — $2.33
  • house brand chiocciole pasta — $2.33
  • tray of avocado sushi rolls — $4.75
  • bag credit — ($0.10)
