Day 162: Food and Shakespeare
This morning, while preparing to go to church, The Daughter realized that she couldn’t locate her wallet. This is the second time in just over a year that she’s lost her wallet. It’s a stressful and unfortunate situation and I feel bad for her. As best as we could figure out, the wallet was either left in her locker at school, is somewhere in the house, or was lost or stolen at the game on Friday night.
We were able to eliminate the first possiblity this afternoon — that it might be in her school locker. It happens that a fellow church member is also at teacher at the school. I asked if he could meet us at school and let The Daughter in so she could check her locker. He was happy to oblige. Unfortunately, the wallet wasn’t there.
But as thanks to the teacher, we bought him lunch. Lunch for three at a neighborhood, urban restaurant cost me $25.18 including a 20% tip. The Son had a burrito, The Daughter had a stack of buttermilk pancakes, and our friend had a Ruben with french fries. By the time we got home, I was starved. I ate a large bowl of Kashi Cinnamon Harvest cereal. It was good but, man, not anywhere as yummy as that Ruben looked!
I had to reissue a check to the outfit that provides hot, organic school lunches. Somehow The Daughter’s lunch order and check went missing. The original check was written for $23.75 for 5 lunches; this new check was written for $19 for 4 lunches.
The last expense of the day was a $16.00 check written to The Daughter’s school for a ticket to go see a Shakespeare performance in April with her high school. I’m hoping I’ll be able to volunteer to carpool to the event and, therefore, get to attend the play as well.
No offering was made at church today because I forgot my checkbook. I missed last week’s offering because I was out of town and will quite likely miss the next two Sundays. I’ll mail a check some time this week to cover this month’s offerings.
