Day 140: A Full Day Of Entertainment
Posted on | January 19, 2008 |
The Son, The Daughter, and I all spent the morning diligently saving money. But the rest of the day was dedicated to spending it
The morning The Son and I ran to turn in his baseball registration. On the way home we stopped at Wamu where I made my own deposit (a portion of my paycheck into my personal checking account) and, for The Daughter, a $70 cash deposit into her savings account. Then we ran to The Son’s bank where he made a $93 cash deposit into his savings. The Daughter apparently kept $9 in cash in her wallet as mad money; The Son put $6 in his wallet for the same purpose.
Movie Theater — $22.50
I bought tickets for all three of us to see the new National Treasure movie. The movie was fun; not as good as the original but okay as far as sequels go. We don’t see many movies in the theater. Typically I pay for admission and if the kids want munchies they have to pay themselves. The Son purchased a massive size medium Sprite for a usurious $4.50 and then had to make a beeline for the bathrooms immediately after the movie. I believe that he very generously shared the soda with his sister and did not ask for any type of reimbursement afterward.
Concert Tickets — $16.00
The original athletic schedule had The Daughter playing in a game tonight but it was rescheduled and they played last night instead. That freed up both The Husband and The Daughter to come watch The Son’s concert. We shouldn’t have but we headed for the exit after The Son’s group was done performing. I know we should have stayed for the whole concert but, well, we all had reasons for preferring to leave early.
Pizza joint — $16.15
I’d hoped to stop by Costco for a cheap pizza on the way home from the concert but Costco closes early on Saturday. So The Daughter and I went to a local pizzaria instead and waited 1/2 hour for our pie. We killed the time discussing the progress of her 20+ page research paper. She’s comparing/contrasting Barack Obama and John McCain — looking objectively at their positions on three key issues. She’s been doing research and watching videos, etc. It was nice to sit and chat with her and listen to her thoughts and opinions. It’s so amazing to watch her start to blossom and mature into a young adult capable of independent, critical thought and analysis.
