Day 109: Holy Groceries, Batman!
Posted on | December 19, 2007 |
Another day, another million things I didn’t get done. That’s not to say that I didn’t get anything done. I got a ton of stuff done; I just didn’t do everything that needed to be done.
I did fork over $450 in grocery cards to The Daughter’s school though. That’s $22.50 in funds for the school and $450 in gift cards that I should have no trouble spending over the next 2-1/2 weeks. Shoot, I spent almost $150 of it this afternoon alone.

A good number of these items were purchased specifically for the upcoming family Christmas party. The loaves of little tiny cocktail breads, for example, will be served with fresh, sliced deli meat (to be purchased on Saturday). The bok choy, canned tomatoes, and okra will be used to make two different soups that I traditionally serve at family parties.
If you’ve followed this blog at all you’ll notice that I don’t buy soda for everyday family consumption. In fact, neither of my children are allowed to drink Coke (no caffeine still for them) and usually only get sodas when we’re eating out. The Husband used to drink quite a bit of soda but has cut back drastically in the past year due to recommendations from his doctor. I never, ever drink soda. The soda is for the guests — some of the grandchildren will be allowed by their parents to down unlimited numbers of sodas (including Coke) in the few hours they’ll be here for the party. C’est la vie.
The butter and cereal stock-ups were because they were on sale. I’ve got a pretty good supply of Kashi cereal now but I go through it pretty quickly. Somehow I managed to go through all of the butter I stockpiled back in November and I still have cakes to bake. I was more than happy to find the Horizon butter on sale again this week.
The chocolate Snowman will be found hanging in the Christmas tree on Christmas morning. The children will find it first and tell their dad about it and then at some point in the day he’ll go searching for it. Santa always leaves a new ornament in the tree for each of the children and a chocolate Santa or other such mainstream Christmas figure for The Husband. Back in the days when I could eat chocolate, Santa always left me a Toblerone bar. Ah, those were the good old days. Shh, don’t tell but I’ve got a strong suspicion that Santa might leave me a little gift card of some sort hanging in the tree this year. I sure wouldn’t mind an iTunes gift card ![]()
