Day 106: Car stuff, Church stuff, Christmas stuff and a big Stupid Tax

Posted on | December 16, 2007 |

Kroger — $15.05
We all slept in this morning and had only 15 minutes to get ready to leave for church this morning.  I promised The Son that I’d run out for bagels during his religious instruction time.  However, it turned out that another mom had gone for bagels so the daughter and I went for donuts  ;-)  A friend at church had a headache but no one had any Advil on them so I picked up a small bottle for her.

Church — $25.00
Weekly offering.

Library late fees — $23.60
I absolutely hate it when I do stupid things and end up having to pay a stupid tax.  I requested a bunch of DVD’s, the hold function didn’t work in my library account, they sent me a ton of movies all at once, I very stupidly checked them all out then got busy, returned most of them unwatched — and late.  Worst of all, I forgot to return one of the movies and carried it around in my purse for another week before remembering to return it today.  Gotta stop doing stupid things; gotta stop paying stupid tax.

Safeway — $46.94
Once again The Tank needed fuel.  I pumped 17.586 gallons @ $2.66/gallon and my mileage reads 117,958.

Advance Auto Parts — $49.31
Hey, Subaru!  We love our new Impreza; it’s sporty, it’s got tons of get, up, and go!, and handles beautifully in the snow.  But you really should consider equipping them with more than those piece-of-sh*t wiper blades you put on them.

Hey, Bosch!  These icon wiper blades are terrific.  Talk to Subaru.

As I wrote a few weeks ago, wiper blades are an important piece of safety equipment — and one that’s so easy to overlook.  Until you need them.  About a week ago, during a nasty, freezing snowstorm, The Husband’s wiper blades proved themselves to be beyond pathetic.  I promised to buy some heavy-duty blades and install them — which I finally got around to today.

I also picked a package of bulbs so I can replace the burned out rear “marker” light.

Car Wash — $9.50
The weather got up to a balmy 45 degrees this afternoon and the line at the car wash was long.  I emptied some of the trash, vacuumed out the cement dust from the back, and gave The Tank a thorough bath.

Amazon.com — $28.49
Looney Tunes Vol. 3* for my youngest sister’s family Christmas gift — shipped directly to them on the east coast for free with Super Saver Shipping.

Amazon.com — $26.65
The Son has elected to give his sister the National Treasure* DVD for Christmas ($14.99) plus The Son’s cello teacher requested that I pick up a copy of Celtic Cello Grooves* ($11.99) — shipped directly to us for free with Super Saver Shipping.

Amazon.com — $26.37
A boxed set of Samantha* paperback books from the American Girls collection.  This gift is for my niece (my brother’s daughter) — since she’s an only child, I usually end up buying her a gift instead of buying a family gift as I do for both of my sister’s families.  The set is on backorder so she won’t get it before Christmas.  But she’ll enjoy it nonetheless.

edit:  Tonight I also placed two of the photostamps.com orders from Costco.  It was very easy and the coupon codes worked beautifully (I suggest you skip the whole “disk” thing and just use the on-line ordering form).  I’m trying to decide who should get the third order.
