Day 95: Hamburgers and Granny Nightgowns

Wendy’s — $4.06
Dinner for The Son.

If you’re a regular reader you know that nearly every Wednesday we stop by Wendy’s and pick up some dinner for The Son in between his cello lesson and orchestra rehearsal.  Well today when we got to his lesson I discovered that I’d forgotten my purse.  Big Bummer.  So instead of stopping by the Wendy’s right around the corner from his lesson, we had to go all the way back home for my purse and then head out for orchestra from home.  Think of it as having to travel along the X and Y axes instead of triangulating and traveling the hypotenuse.

As a result, we ended up going to a Wendy’s near home instead.  Curiously, The Son’s 2 Jr. Bacon Cheeseburgers and medium root beer cost $0.20 more at our local restaurant than they do at the Wendy’s near campus.  I pulled out our receipt from last week and discovered that his medium root beer cost $0.20 more tonight.  Either the price of soda has increased or this restaurant simply charges more.  I’m curious to see what the price will be next week — provided I manage to remember my purse next week and we don’t have to come all the way home again :-p

Marshalls — ($14.04)
Finally returned the athletic “swish” pants I bought for my nephew.

I probably should have just left the store after returning the pants — but I didn’t.  I ended up finding a long flannel “granny” nightgown in the most adorable scotty-dog print for The Daughter.

For some as-yet-undiscovered reason, The Daughter’s bedroom gets much colder than the other two bedrooms in our house.  I mean much colder.  So on cold nights The Daughter likes to put on an extra layer — a flannel nightgown over her Hanna long johns.  She has two nightgowns — one of which was mine and is, I kid you not, no less than 25 years old.  Needless to say, it’s not in the best of shape.  Last Christmas I found one almost exactly like it — down to the colors in the plaid fabric.  Tonight when I saw this adorable scotty pattern, I knew she’d either love it or hate it and, if she loved it, could really use another nightgown.  She loved it.

I contemplated giving her the nightgown for Christmas but decided against it because it would upset the balance I’ve achieved between how much I’m giving her and how much I’ve found for him.  I don’t worry much about giving them the same dollar value in gifts for Christmas but I do try to give them roughly the same number of gifts.
