Day 91: Popsicles and Ice Cream

Posted on | December 1, 2007 |

The Son, The Daughter, and I all spent hours in the cold today manning the grill at a fund-raiser holiday fair at The Daughter’s school.  Well, The Daughter didn’t last to the bitter end (pun very much intended) but The Son and I worked from set-up and shut-down and by the time we were done our fingers were popsicles and our noses were runny with the bitter cold.

I discovered a benefit to working 6 straight volunteer shifts — no free time to roam through the vendor booths, books, and gifts means no money spent!

The Son did spend $3.00 cash for a hamburger and soda from the grill for lunch.  The Daughter borrowed some cash but didn’t spend it so it has since been returned to my wallet.

On the way home, despite being almost too tired to see straight, The Daughter absolutely had to stop by the library.  The Son and I ditched her there and made a quick run across the street to Kroger’s — he had visions of chocolate ice cream and a movie as a way to wind down from a full day of serving lunch, but we didn’t have any chocolate ice cream.  Being a total softy at heart, we spent $3.42 correcting that ;-)

He ate ice cream and I napped while he watched a Netflix disc of the first Twilight Zone episodes.  It was a great day made better by the fact that I only spent $6.42 all day.
