Raising Financially Responsible Children

The Women’s Personal Finance Network (of which I am a proud member) is currently highlighting the subject of How to Raise Financially Responsible Children.  I have a lot of thoughts on this issue — some of which I’ve already shared on this blog in my Kids and Money category.  Other thoughts will come out in the [...]

Maintenance Monday: Auto Safety Check-Up

I was all set to continue with my bathroom theme for today’s Maintenance Monday post, but an incident yesterday inspired me to write about auto maintenance instead.
As I was pulling out of The Home Depot parking lot yesterday, a guy came running up behind us and told me that my left back-up light wasn’t working.  After thanking [...]

Day 85: A Wall, Kitchen Utensils, Soap, and Pizza

Our new retaining wall has been poured and is curing as we speak — complete with handprints of The Daughter, The Son, and myself.  Today’s labor cost me $100 plus a few slices of pie and two glasses of milk ;-)
After all the cement was mixed and the wall poured, we ended up with three extra bags [...]

Why the Cook Quit or A Modern Jack Sprat Tale

In the past two months that I’ve been blogging, I’ve also been reading a lot of PF blogs.  I’ve noticed that the grocery bill is almost universally the first budget category targeted by people wanting to tighten the budget belt.  The Husband and I have discussed this observation and his take is that in situations of deep consumer debt, the grocery [...]

Sales on Wagglepop

Wow, things are popping at Wagglepop!  I’ve had 6 sales in November alone — two of them were for multiple items.  I have no idea of why things have picked up in my Wagglepop store but I’m certainly not going to complain.  Of course, this month’s $300 worth of sales can’t even begin to compare to [...]

Day 84: Printer Ink and More Cement

The temperature has dropped here from the balmy low 70’s on Monday to below freezing.  I love the winter but I hate being cold (if that makes any sense at all).  Anyway, the point is that I didn’t want to leave the house today.  Such is the life of a mother and homeowner.  I actually [...]

Day 83: Shampoo & Shepherd’s Pie

The Daughter and I made a library run this afternoon — we both had a stack of DVD’s on hold and I had several Personal Finance books waiting as well.  Oh, and The Son had a Raymond Chandler book on hold.
While we were at the library, I remembered that yesterday’s shower had been one of [...]
